Varients in SAP ECC

In this article we will discuss what are variants Variants allow you to save your selection parameters in the input screen. It minimizes the need to enter the selection parameters each time you run an SAP Report.

Variants can be stored for ANY SAP REPORT as long as the Save Button is available in the SAP Menu bar for the report.

Tables

VARID - Directory of variants present in the system (Header)
VARI - Variant values are saved (Data and Attributes)
VARIT - Text
VBRK - Stores many selection variants.

Types of Variants:

Variants values can be Static or Dynamic.
STATIC: Static values are fixed values and do not change over time.
Example Let us suppose there is an organization with 10,000 employees and the HR executes a monthly report having the personnel number as input, each month. Then in this case we can use the static value giving the range as 1 to 10,000 for this.

DYNAMIC: Dynamic values in a variant can change over time.
Example HR wants to execute the report daily and gives the current date as the input. The requirement is that the next day when the report is executed the date should be changed to the current date.
In such case, we can use dynamic values. If the dynamic value is a date, we can use the different date calculation options provided by SAP.

Create a Variant

  1. Enter the values for selection criteria while you are in any SAP report (MM60 - Material list display)
  2. Once all selection criteria are populated, Click the Save button


  1. Create a Variant Name
  2. Type Meaning (description) of the variant

Click the Save Button.


Retrieve a Variant

Click the Get Variant Button
  1. Highlight the Variant you wish to use
  2. Click the Check Mark
The report will be populated with the Selection Criteria.

Creating variants for Batch Jobs:

  1. Go to transaction code SE38.
  2. 2. Give the program name for which you want to create variant.
  3. 3. Click on variants

  4. 4. Give the variant name and Click on Create

  5. Give the particular details regarding plant and materials.
  6. Click on Attributes

  7. Give the description and Select the checkbox below for which the variant is used for.
  8. You can also select the Objects such as ‘Hide’, ‘Save field without values’ or ‘Required field’ is in the Selection screen.
  9. 9. Click on Save
